'A' Tests

An A test is to demonstrate your ability to safely control a helicopter without supervision. A helicopter is a hovering machine and this A test will assess your ability to move the helicopter around at walking pace and bring it back to the hover again.

The questions asked are all taken from the BMFA manual and will assess your knowledge for safe flying. Nerves play an important part of the performance of any pilot taking a test, this will be taken into consideration, however many club members already know me, giving the test pilot some advantage, so poor performance during the test may result in failure. Although you may repeat the test again later in the day.

NB all test candidates will be treated the same, you must perform the test correctly and answer all questions correctly. No exceptions.

The whole test procedure is available from the BMFA’s website. Read it! Remember you will be assessed from the moment you arrive at the site, so be “smart” from the start.

Please contact Andy or Trevor for information on testing and to schedule a test.
